The most anticipated releases in May

Updated: Apr 29, 2022

April was a pretty mixed month with releases ranging from the criminally bad Morbius to the ridiculously good Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, while May looks to have some of the biggest releases of the year so far.

Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness (movie)

Sam Raimi's first MCU is finally almost here. Doctor Strange In the Multiverse of Madness is set to be one of the biggest movie releases of all time as it looks to fully kick off the "multiverse saga" in the Marvel universe. While there has been months worth of speculation about who might appear or what might happen we still have no idea what crazy cameos might happen (hopefully Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze) or what events might take place in the movie. At this point nearly everyone is a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe so I don't really need to say much more about it other than that there will be a review for it available here on the 5th of May (or Revenge of the 5th if you will).

Moon Knight season finale (TV show)

The second of the two Marvel releases in May is the final episode of Moon Knight and it's probably the one I'm the most excited for. If you haven't checked Moon Knight out yet and want to know what it's about here's a preview article and a review of the first four episodes. I for one am really excited to see how the series wraps up, especially because there's a chance that the character won't return (a very slim one though) as Oscar Isaac isn't contracted to any more appearances in the MCU. Episode 5 left a lot of questions up to answer such as whether Steven will be back, whether Jake Lockley will make an appearance, how will they free Khonshu etc. The season finale is an absolute must watch for any Marvel fan.

Kenobi (TV series)

An Obi-Wan Kenobi project has been something that fans have called for for many years, and now it's less than a month away. Kenobi will tell the story of Obi-Wan and what he was up to in between the events of Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope as he looks to protect a young Luke Skywalker on Tatooine. It will also see the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader and the debut of the inquisitors in live action. It's slightly misleading putting Kenobi in this month because the series actually spreads across two months with the first two episodes releasing in May and the rest in April. If the quality of the Mandalorian is anything to go by then Star Wars fans are in for a treat, hopefully it's more Mandalorian than Book of Boba Fett.

Evil Dead: The Game (video game)

The Evil Dead video game adaptation was set to arrive last year but was delayed to 2022, it was then set to release in April but was then delayed to May. The game will see you take part in both PvP multiplayer and co-op multiplayer, it will also feature a skill tree levelling system and multiple maps with over 25 weapons to use including Ash's chainsaw. This one seems like it will be very reminiscent of the Friday the 13th multiplayer game which was actually quite fun, but it struggled due to some poor optimization and a lack of support so hopefully the Evil Dead game fully capitalises on the potential of a movie tie-in video game multiplayer game. If the game is half as fun as the rest of the Evil Dead franchise then we're in for a treat.

The Bob's Burgers Movie (movie)

I haven't yet covered anything like Bob's Burgers and I can't wait to cover this one. I'm a huge fan of Bob's Burgers and I'm amazed that there hasn't yet been a movie or long special, it's the kind of show that lends itself perfectly to these things. For the uninitiated, Bob's Burgers follows the belcher family (Bob, Linda, Tina, Gene, and Louise) as they run their restaurant, it might not sound very interesting but it's a whole lot of fun and I feel that it should be held in the same regard as shows like The Simpsons and Rick and Morty. The movie hits cinemas at the end of the month so if you're looking for a fun watch this is the one for you.

Stranger Things season 4 part 1 (TV show)

Stranger Things season 4 is finally coming out. It feels like it's been years since season 3 wrapped up. The first half of the Netflix original's new season drops at the end of the month. All of your favourite characters are returning, yes even Hopper. Details are difficult to find but season 4 looks like it will be even more full on than the last one with new villains, new monsters, and new problems for Netflix's equivalent of the scooby gang to solve. As it stands season 5 is set to be the final season of the show so expect the upcoming fourth season to begin sewing the seeds for the inevitable massive finale that this show deserves.

That's all I've got for you this month, it's looking like a massive month for Marvel and Stranger Things fans, but there's not so much for the gamers which is a shame but at least you'll have some great things to watch to keep you going until next month. You can also look forward to the critically acclaimed Cloven Hoof podcast with episodes 1 and 2 (and very likely 3 depending on when you're reading) available to download right now.
